Technical Skills
Archimedes technical was set up to work in partnership with Effective Training Associates of Santa Clara USA, the leading training provider for Silicon Valley’s high tech businesses.
Archimedes and ETA have worked extensively with many businesses and groups of clients who are in technical industries or functions. We recognise that that for many people in these functions their main skills sets are about their technical expertise not their “soft skills”. We also understand that some aspects of education in scientific, engineering or software type disciplines require and encourage logical, linear and binary thought. Things either are right or they’re not, they work or they don’t. Working with people is much messier, less logical and less clear cut.
"Soft Skills" around interpersonal interactions may not be core to a technical professional’s education but they are critical to their success at work, particularly as their career progresses and they need to influence management, secure resources and manage teams.
Archimedes Technical offers in company, skills development programmes tailored to the requirements and preferences of technical professionals and managers. We have core programmes and content but usually work closely with each client to tailor the offering to their particular needs.
Communication & Influence
Being able to communicate and influence is how you make things progress in organisations. Technical professionals need to be able to secure resources from managers, argue their case to shape project directions and communicate with real and virtual teams.
Our programmes are designed to help technical people recognise the challenging aspects of communication, buy into the need to master it and to give them techniques to do so and finally and practice to consolidate the concepts.
We have core programmes and content but we are happy to work closely with each client to understand their particular communication challenges and design solutions to address their particular needs.

Personal effectiveness
Business moves fast and it’s always getting faster. This can create challenges. Challenges like managing the precious resource of your time, utilising it effectively in meetings and handling problems and conflicts that inevitably arise in organisations especially when working under pressure and time constraints and solving the technological and scientific problems is not enough. Finding ways of dealing with these issues is critical to effectiveness. These programmes offer concepts and tools to add to peoples resources to be able to tackle wider work place problems that left un-resolved can form barriers to achievement.
Project management
You might feel you / your team have all the technical skills and experience to run any project but there is one thing that keeps being a problem – communicating and dealing with difficult people! Ways to deal with strong personalities whether the customer, a third party supplier, or a member of your own team is a key part of achieving results. Projects don’t just happen, they need good methodology or process and also a common language and a good “team spirit”. These project management programmes will help develop the process, methodologies and skills needed for good project management.
Management
People are often promoted into management because they’ve done a great job at the technical function they were in. The skills needed to be a good engineer/ programmer / scientist are frequently very different from the skill sets needed for managing and leading people. These programmes are designed to support people transitioning into management in technical roles by providing knowledge and skills on managing teams, coaching and raising awareness of the different skills needed.
